United Brothers record back-to-back wins

The Babulall and Son T10 softball continued Sunday with United Brothers securing two victories while Crown XI, Venom, Adventure Sports Club, Queenstown/Ariel XI and Golden Fleece all won once.

The Essequibo Coast tournament saw United Brothers beating Crown XI by four runs in the first encounter.

Kumar Dass stroked 34, laced with three sixes to see Brothers reach 85 for five from their allotted overs.

R. Raghubar clubbed two sixes and two fours in 36 but his side fell short in the end, reaching 81 for four when their overs ended.

Devindra Gobin bagged two wickets for six runs.

Brothers then returned to secure a comprehensive 115-run win over Die Hard

Brothers. United posted a mammoth 180 for one with left-hander Dass carving seven sixes and two fours in 78 not out.

He was supported by Gopaul Dean who made an even 50, decorated by five sixes and one four  while Rocky Boodhoo  ended on 41 not out.

In reply, Die Hard Brothers rolled over for 65 with D. Narine top scoring with 19. Shazim Hakh and Yashpaul Harinarine picked up three wickets each for United Brothers.

Crown XI in their second match, beat Medical Warriors by six wickets. Medical Warriors posted 72 for five with R. Patterson top scoring with 35. Crown XI reached 75 for four with three overs to spare.

Meanwhile, Queenstown/Ariel XI continued their dominance with a 78-run win over Affiance Sports Club. Queenstown/Ariel raced to 180 without loss and Brian Mangar, who scored the first century of the tournament last weekend, made 84 not out which featured a dozen sixes. Jonathan Fernandes was equally as brutal, hitting seven sixes and two fours in making 65 not out.

In the chase, Affiance only managed 102 for four with D. Narine (26), G. Mangal (24) and C. Singh (20) getting starts but failing to carry on. Hemnauth Deochan picked up 2-11 while Mangar and Fernandes grabbed a wicket each.

Queenstown/Ariel’s second match, against Golden Fleece ended when the rain came down with Golden Fleece 21 for one after 3.1 overs in pursuit of 180 for victory.

Earlier, Golden Fleece had recorded a 69-run win over Cullen All Stars. Golden Fleece posted 151 for five with Travis Drakes hitting seven sixes and two fours on his way to 65. Cullen All Stars were routed for 82.

Also, Venom defeated HVA Spartans by 98 runs at the New Opportunity Corps ground. Venom posted 158 for 8 with Shaulz Grovesnor top scoring with 51, highlighted by five sixes and three fours. Calvin Walcott and Romario Mohabir chipped in with 32 and 25 respectively. HVA were dismissed for 60 with Walcott, Devindra Mohan and Sachin Persaud claiming three wickets each.

In the final match of the day, Adventure Sports Club got the better of Essequibo Eagles by 55 runs.

Adventure piled on 150 for five in their quota with Dellon Grovesnor top scoring with 35 and supported by R. Baljodha (33), Govinda Sharma (24 not out) and Rahul Rooplall (23). S. Ally picked up 3-36. In reply, Eagles were bowled out for 95. S. Ajram top scored with 22 while extras accounted for 29. R. Amin bagged three wickets for two runs while J. Sankar returned 2-15.
