Accused in fatal stabbing over phone remanded on murder charge

Rondell Richards, who was wanted for fatally stabbing another man after a row over a phone, has been charged with murder and remanded to prison.

Richards, 22, of East Ruimveldt, was on Friday arraigned in a Georgetown court, where Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus read the murder charge to him.

It is alleged that on May 1, at Back Circle, East Ruimvedlt, he murdered Jomal Adams, 29, of Lot 35 Cooper Street.

The matter has been adjourned until May 25.

Adams was stabbed to death with a pair of scissors after an argument over a cell phone. According to information provided by the Guyana Police Force, Adams and Richardson were arguing over a cellphone. The police said that eyewitnesses have said that the argument escalated and Richardson allegedly stabbed Adams to the chest. Adams reportedly then ran off in a northern direction but Richardson reportedly followed and then allegedly stabbed the man to his back.

Adams then went into his yard, where he fell to the ground while Richardson, allegedly ran away from the scene. The police said that an eyewitness went up to the victim and observed that part of a pair of scissors was stuck in his back and the handle of the object was on the floor.

The police said that the victim was taken to Georgetown Public Hospital and went into surgery immediately but he died at about 3.20 pm while receiving treatment. A stab wound was seen to the left side of his chest and another to the right side of his upper back. Following the man’s death a wanted bulletin was issued by the police.
