Can President Irfaan Ali and his gov’t consider lowing the import duties on motor vehicles in the 2500cc and below range? The gov’t collects billions of dollars in taxes annually. The gov’t can afford to reduce these taxes so Guyanese can import a better quality car. Most of the better quality cars come in a higher cc that offers more accident security features. It’s beyond ridiculous that a 7 to 10 year old car with a 2500 cc engine costing US$5,000 attracts a Guyanese import tax of US$30,000 in duty and tax. That’s right. THIRTY thousand United States dollars in duty and tax.
