Fresh off winning the Independence Three-Stage road race, the biggest win of his promising career, Briton John is now armed with the confidence to become the National Road Race Champion.
The Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) will stage its National Cycling Championships this weekend and the next and John, who earned the spoils of the longest tenured cycling event on Sunday wants to add National champion to his palmares.
John has signaled his intentions to go full throttle and once again climb the top podium step.
“The championship is the next race for me. I really want to win that championship. I am looking forward to racing and winning.”
At 21, the United We Stand cyclist has racked up an impressive resume thus far, cementing his place among the best riders in the country. His sublime form was on full display during the Three-Stage race where he won the first leg and placed a close fourth and second in the ensuing legs.
Winning the 35th edition of the prestigious fixture by emphatically beating the likes of star riders, Jamual John, Paul DeNobrega, Raynauth Jeffrey and other current and former national riders was definitely his coming out party. He made a huge announcement on the saddle in the signature win he earned. John who has been a model of consistency is always a threat for a podium finish in any race he enters and will be a marked man in every local cycling event he enters.
Meanwhile, this year’s National Championship will take the format of Time Trial, Senior Road Race and Junior/Female/Veteran Road Race.

Course: Georgetown to Linden/Soesdyke Highway to Georgetown
Distance: 100 miles
Description: The race will start at Banks DIH Main Office (Rotunda) proceed to the Linden/Soesdyke Highway (50 miles up) and return to Banks DIH Main Office for the finish

Race: Junior/Female/Veteran Road Race
Course: Mahaica Loop
Distance: To Be Determined (Will be announced soon)
Description: The race will start at KK Gas Station proceed west to Unity Junction and turn east along the Mahaica Old Road. Riders will then exit by the Mahaica Bridge and turn west to proceed along the Mahaica New Road to KK Gas Station to complete one lap. This race will be in the form of a criterium and the various categories will have different laps to complete accordingly.
Race Time: 07:30h
The GCF stated that registration for each event will close 30 minutes before the start time and late entrants will not be permitted to race.
All rules will be enforced especially gear restrictions for Juniors, the Federation added.
