These areas are critical for electoral reform

Dear Editor,

The work being done via the electoral reform project should ensure that these critical areas are reviewed for improvement and implementation: (1) The house-to-house validation of all eligible voters within a doable timeframe; (2) The use of overseas ballots by those Guyanese nationals outside of the country; (3) The ability to form partnerships or coalitions after the votes have been counted; (4) The publication of the initial statement of polls (SOPs) within a predetermined time frame; (5) A predefined recount process, and, (6) A clear outline and limitation of the role of the Returning Officers and the Chief Election Officer (CEO).

I am certain that the involvement of international and national organizations will add perspective and the implementation of best practices to our Nation’s electoral reform project.

Sincerely,
