Overseas-based Guyanese Angel Bispat and pageant enthusiast Arian Dahlia Richmond are today hosting a children’s event called ‘Painting with a Purpose’ at the National Park.

Some 50  children aged five to 16 are expected to be in attendance. All COVID protocols will be in effect, according to the organizers. It was added that it was as a result of the pandemic that the open air venue was selected for the event. However, despite this, everyone in attendance will be required to wear facemasks and sanitize when relevant.

Angel explained that when Arian shared the idea for the event with her, she was really excited and decided to get onboard. The main activity will see participants creating a vision board of the future they want for themselves. They will be encouraged to cut out words to create their own inspirational quote that will be added to their vision boards.

Angel also said that part of the time will be used for the purpose of affirmation where they will proclaim positive words for themselves. Additionally, the event will promote an attitude of gratitude where children in attendance will share what they are grateful for.

She went on to say that after being locked up for so long, it is an opportunity for children to get creative in a social setting even though they will be some distance apart. “…Oftentimes we focus only on the academics of a child and less on nourishment of the creative side. I believe that every child is a genius. It just takes the right circumstances or opportunities to bring it out. Hopefully, the activities don’t stop at the National Park but continue in their homes and their daily lives,” Angel said. “As a young adult, I feel it’s a responsibility to set the trend and provide such an event for them…”

The event is free and all materials have been provided by sponsors: Muneshwar’s Limited which provided canvas and paints; Smalta, a tent, Smalta beverages, and a photographer; Amanda’s Bridal, Mohan’s Underwear, KFC, and the Breakfast Club.

Portable toilets have also been provided for the event.

Painting with a Purpose kicks off at 2 pm today and goes until 5 pm.
