Enmore man in intensive care after Foulis accident

A pedal cyclist is now suffering from broken ribs and a punctured lung after he was involved in an accident along the Foulis Railway Embankment, on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD).

The Guyana Police Force yesterday said that 53-year-old Sooraj Persaud, of Logwood Enmore, ECD, was involved in an accident on Friday with a car, #PWW 480, owned and driven by Shane Da Silva, 28, of Section C, Golden Grove, ECD.

According to the police, at 9.05 pm, Da Silva was proceeding along the road at a fast rate when Persaud, who was riding his pedal cycle, rode into the path of the vehicle as he attempted to cross the road. “This caused the driver of the car to swerve north to avoid a collision but despite his efforts the right front of the car collided with the front wheel of the pedal cyclist,” the police said.

Persaud fell onto the road’s surface as a result of the collision and received injuries about his body. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was admitted as a patient in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the police said.

The police said Da Silva was also taken to hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and later discharged.

In addition, the police said a breathalyser test was conducted on the driver and it revealed no trace of alcohol in his breath. He is in custody assisting with investigations, the police added.
