Jeffrey celebrates birthday with time trials win

Add another Time-Trial title to Raynauth Jeffrey’s lengthy and diverse palmares.

Yesterday, the Team Foundation standout took his talents and his Argon 18 Time-Trial super bike to the Linden/Soesdyke Highway and rode off with his seventh national time-trial championships to highlight day one of the annual National Cycling Championships.

The two-time national road race champion, put on an epic display of racing against the clock to earn the title of national senior time-trial champion for the seventh time.

Jeffrey, the king of local time-trials, won the same title in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. He reclaimed his throne after stopping the clock in 28m:55.48s over the 10-mile course Jeffrey, who turned 27 yesterday, gifted himself the birthday win by leading Curtis Dey (30:07:88) and Christopher Griffith (32:16:28) onto the podium. Big names like Jamual John, Briton John and Paul DeNobrega opted to rest for today’s road race championship and did not compete yesterday.

Jeffrey, who rode a number of time trials recently in the USA with outstanding results, will be looking to unwrap another present this morning when the 100-mile road race is staged from Thirst Park to the Soesdyke Highway and back. Action starts at 07:30hrs.

Meanwhile, 13 year-old Alex Leung (17:38:00) won the juvenile national time-trial title while Sherwin Sampson (17:49:78) took the junior title on their five-mile trek. Stephen Fernandes (31:37:84) who had the third fastest ride of the day, won the Master’s championship ahead of Paul Choo-Wee-Nam (32:23:77) and Jaikarran Sukhai (32:27:91).

Suzanne Hamilton was the winner of the female division.
