Man charged with drug trafficking, seawall robberies

Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan recently remanded Odel Alves when he was brought before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of robbery.

The defendant was arraigned virtually.

It is alleged that on May 15th, 2021, while at the Bel Air seawall, Georgetown, Alves robbed Clive Barrows of one black LG cellphone valued at $21, 000, and that he further robbed Barrows of one BlackBerry cellphone valued at $30,000, property of Jenelle Hussain.

According to the prosecutor, both phones were found in Alves’ possession. Alves pleaded not guilty to the two charges of robbery and was remanded to prison. The prosecution also stated that on May 16th, 2021 in Charlestown, Alves had in his possession 49 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking. Alves pleaded guilty and was also remanded on this charge. Both matters will be called again today.
