Flooding in Georgetown is getting worse

Dear Editor,

After the videos of President Ali visiting the various pump stations in Region 4 started surfacing on social media, I anxiously waited to see what will be the outcome. So far, the news or social media haven’t mentioned anything even though there’s plenty speculation circulating all over. Added to that, are images of pile up garbage around the city and similarly to the pumps situation there’s been a blame game. Since before 2005, whenever there’s heavy rainfall, many places were being considered ‘hotspots’ for flooding, especially in Georgetown and over the years, it continued whilst the government tried various methods to combat the flooding. Over the years, trenches and kokers that wasn’t functioning started working back after addressing what affected them. Region 4, especially in Georgetown, remains the same or gets worst when there is flooding. Whenever there is flood, it doesn’t affect the house alone, but the whole country in various ways. Agricultural farms, animals, infrastructure, business, etc., got affected, which results to increase in prices for many things, unnecessary money have to be spending to repair damages, help replace loses by farmers, people cannot go to work, sickness arising etc.

Sincerely,

Sahadeo Bates
