The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) in collaboration with the Linden Table Tennis Steering Committee, the Department of Education Region 10, Lindley Langhorne, and Coach Shavin Greene have presented several schools in Linden with table tennis equipment.

The schools are: Christianburg Secondary, Harmony Secondary, Wisburg Secondary, Kwakwani Secondary, New Silver City Secondary, Linden Foundation Secondary, Mc Kenzie High, and Christianburg Primary.

The provision of the equipment which forms part of the GTTA’s strategic and decentralisation plan will provide resources needed to aid in accelerating the growth and structure of table tennis in the region and give students from the nucleus of schools earmarked, equity and access to sport as part of a developmental plan.

ITTF Level One Coach Shavin Greene who is also General Secretary of the Linden Table Tennis Steering Committee with support from the Department of Education Region 10, immediately commenced work with the students over the past few weeks orienting them to the fundamentals of the game.

Green, who coaches National Cadet Champion Ebo McNeil, outlined that the provision of the equipment is truly a significant boost for the sport in Linden since they now have the facilities to conduct training programmes for the students at the afore-mentioned schools in a comfortable environment.

He added that they would be able to create school teams and have inter-house and inter-schools competitions at the various age groups.

He outlined that the students were truly ecstatic at being able to have the facilities to practice the sport.
