Trio held over robbery after attack on cop, businessman at Goed Intent

A robber and two suspected accomplices are now in custody after an attack on a police officer and a businessman at Goed Intent, West Bank Demerara last Thursday.

The police, in a report, stated that the 30-year-old policeman and a 44-year-old businessman were robbed around 4.30 pm.

The report said the businessman was relieved of a gold band, valued at $80,000, two cellphones valued at $68,000 in total, and a wallet containing $114,000, while the police officer was robbed of $21,000 in cash.  Police enquiries revealed that the two victims were working on a newly constructed house when one of the suspects approached and made enquiries to see the person in charge of the construction site.

The report said the suspect was invited into the house, where he held both victims at gunpoint and relieved them of their valuables before running through a nearby yard.

According to the police, the victims entered their cars and gave chase behind the suspect, who joined a car bearing registration number PPP 1130.

The report explained that the victims were successful at blocking the getaway car and the suspect exited the car while brandishing his firearm and he ran in a northern direction.  Persons in the neighbourhood kept watch while one of the victims headed to the Wales Police Station for further assistance.

Police officers later arrived and the suspect was arrested during a search. He was found with the stolen phones, a gold band and $14,000.

He was subsequently taken to the Wales Police Station, where he was placed in custody along with his two alleged accomplices.
