Smythfield pensioner found dead in house

An 83-year-old woman was found dead in her home at Smythfield, New Amsterdam on Thursday.

Dead is Maud Agatha Forde, 83, a pensioner of Lot 136 Smythfield, New Amsterdam.

According to the Guyana Police Force, it was reported that Forde was last seen alive two Fridays ago. However, the police were summoned on Thursday afternoon after residents complained of “a foul smell emanating from the deceased’s residence.”

Police after arriving at the scene discovered the woman’s body on the floor faced down.

The body was checked for marks of violence but due to the advanced stage of decomposition none were seen, the police noted in a statement yesterday.

Her body was taken to New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where Forde was pronounced dead. The body was transported to the Bailey’s Funeral Home to await a post-mortem examination.

Residents of the area yesterday described the woman as always being well spoken and jovial. “We does always see her alone but people does come visit her and after we didn’t see her for couple days one of the neighbours decided to call New Amsterdam station,” a resident noted.
