Canje Knights, Smythfield Rockers to meet in final August 17

The date for the final of the inaugural NPG Packaging first-division basketball tournament between Canje Knights and Smythfield Rockers has been set for Sunday August 17th at the Ithaca Basketball Court.

Initially the match was rescheduled to July 26th at the Vryman’s Erven Basketball Court due to the inclement weather affecting the original date for the finale.

However, according to tournament coordinator Vibert Garett, efforts are being put in place to ensure the final will be staged August 17th. Smythfield Rockets earned their position in the event’s finale after defeating Rose Hall Town Jammers in their semi-final fixture by a 75-45 score line.

Similarly, Canje Knights progressed to the grand finale at the expense of Fyrish Black Sharks, winning by an 83-66 margin in their semi-final engagement. The Berbice Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) sanctioned tournament featured a total of seven teams from both the East and West Berbice region.

The other teams that competed in the tourney were Hopetown Steelers, New Amsterdam Warriors and Ithaca Hard-Liners.

The eventual victors of the event will walk-away with the championship accolade and a financial incentive.

On the other side, the resulting loser will receive the runner-up trophy and a financial incentive. Similarly, incentives will also be awarded to the outstanding individual players in the tournament.
