Tassawini woman allegedly chopped by drinking partner

A North West District woman is currently a patient of the Pakera District Hospital after she was allegedly chopped by her neighbour with whom she was imbibing on Saturday afternoon.

According to police, the victim, forty-five-year old Inez Gouveia and the suspect thirty-nine-year-old Martina Smith, residents of Tassawini Village, North West District were at about 3pm imbibing locally made wine  when a heated argument ensued between them. Smith then armed herself with a cutlass and allegedly chopped Gouveia on her left arm.

The victim made her way to the hospital where she was seen by a doctor and admitted. Her condition is listed as stable.

Smith was subsequently arrested and remains in custody pending charges.
