Ministry denies COVID patient not fed for four days

The Ministry of Health has emphatically denied claims that a COVID-19 patient at the Infectious Diseases  Hospital at Liliendaal was not fed for four days.

“The Ministry has undertaken an urgent investigation upon receipt of these complaints; the findings reveal that the patient has been provided with meals daily in accordance with the care plan that was designed for his medical manage-ment,” a statement pronounced last night.

The patient Kenneth Blounte had claimed via Facebook that he was not fed in four days.

“For the last four days I haven’t eaten anything…we literally starved in here,” he said in the post.

However according to the Ministry not only has Blounte been provided meals but he has also been provided assisted feeding.

“The patient in question [is] receiving assisted feeding by the nurses and doctors at the facility, which we are able to verify with the patient’s medical charts that are managed by the staff on rotation,” the statement claimed.

It went on to condemn what it said was the perpetuation of falsified information which “seeks to create unmerited alarm and doubt about the public health care system.”

“We … refute these malicious allega-tions (outright) and maintain that they are untrue. The Ministry of Health remains committed to ensuring that patients at the Ocean View facility receive holistic care that can enable their recovery. This includes the provision of Nutritionists who advise our staff and contractors on the preparation and provision of meals for all our patients,” it said.
