Four more die from COVID-19

Four new COVID-19 deaths were yesterday reported along with 206 new cases of the virus.

The ministry announced the new deaths in a press release. On June 22, two women – an 85-year-old from Region One, and an 81-year-old from Region Four died. The following day a 58-year-old man from Region Six, and a 54-year-old woman from Region Four died. They all passed away while receiving care at a medical institution.

Meanwhile the 206 new cases have increased Guyana’s total case count to 19,565. These new cases came after 1,434 tests were carried out. This increases the total number of tests done to 182,066. And according to the regional distribution of cases, Region Nine recorded the highest number of cases with 101 followed by regions Four and Six with 46 and 21 new cases respectively.

There are now 1,684 active cases, 112 of whom are in institutional isolation while 1,572 are in home isolation. There are 18 persons at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit while 108 more persons have recovered which lifts the total number of recovered cases to 17,405.
