Vryheid’s Lust man charged with attempted murder of stepson

A man accused of attempted murder committed on his stepson was on Tuesday released on $400,000 bail after appearing at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

The accused, Delwyn Lewis, of Lot 2 Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess.

It is alleged that Lewis on June 25 at Hold Place, Ekereku, Cuyuni River, with intent to commit murder wounded Michael Fernandes.

He was released on bail and ordered to return to court on September 13 for disclosure.

The court prosecutor stated that the accused and the complainant are known to each other and work in the same backdam.

On the day in question at about 9.30 hours, the accused visited the camp of the complainant to talk with him and his wife.

However, an argument ensued and the complainant ran into his camp and came out with a piece of wood and attempted to hit the accused but missed.

The accused armed with a cutlass dealt the complainant several chops about his body causing him to suffer injuries.

He was rescued by persons working in the area and taken to the Ekereku Police Station and subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he is currently a patient.
