Zeelugt man hospitalised after being stabbed by relative

A Zeelugt man is currently a patient at the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) after he was stabbed in his chest by a relative on Tuesday following an argument over money he gave her to buy “chaser” as they were consuming alcohol.

The injured man is twenty-seven-year-old Ricardo Mahadeo of Silk Cotton Dam, Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo.

Police enquiries revealed that Mahadeo left his home about 12pm for his aunt’s residence at Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo, where he met his sister, her boyfriend, and two cousins.

While they were imbibing, Mahadeo gave his relative $1,000 to purchase chasers. After a few hours passed, he realised that she had not returned with the beverage and when she finally showed up at about 9:20pm, an argument ensued between the two during which her boyfriend intervened as the peacemaker.

Mahadeo stated that his relative took the Guinness bottle she had in her hand and dealt him a blow with it to the left side of his head causing him to suffer injuries. She then took the same bottle which had broken and stabbed him in the chest.

The police were summoned and on arrival, rushed the victim to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was treated and subsequently transferred to the WDRH where he was admitted. His condition is listed as stable.

Checks were made for the suspect but she could not be located. The suspect’s boyfriend was detained pending further investigation.
