Moving to higher ground

One of the more challenging consequences of the flooding that attended the recent heavy rainfall was the need for cattle farmers to move their livestock to higher ground.  Much of this involved moving cattle across large expanses of deep water.  This picture was taken in the Flora Gardens, Mahaica River area where cattle farmer Mohan Singh was determined not to abandon his cows to a watery grave.  In this picture part of the herd can be seen making their way across the Mahaica River to the safety of Dantzic.  While we were assured that this evidently risky journey proceeded without loss of life, the Stabroek Business received several reports of loss of livestock that became marooned and irretrievable in the face of the heavy and protracted downpours in some parts of the country.
