A 25-year-old Linden businessman is being accused of trying to bribe a police officer after a quantity of cannabis was allegedly found at his home.

Courtney Nedd, of Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden, was arrested around 2.20 pm on Thursday.

Police, in a statement, said during a raid conducted on the Wismar shore, officers visited the man’s premises and conducted a search.

During the search, a black bulky plastic bag was found in his bedroom tucked under his bed. The bag was opened in his presence and 26 transparent zipper bags that contained leaves, seeds and stems, suspected to be cannabis, were found inside.

Police say he was cautioned after the discovery and replied, “Offica is just a couple bag weed”.

He was subsequently arrested and escorted to the Mackenzie Police Station, where the suspected cannabis was weighed. It amounted to 88grams.

The report added that while at the station the man took out $33,900 from one of his pockets and handed it to the sergeant while requesting that he take the money to drop the case, while relating that he could not leave his four-year-old daughter and go jail.

As a result, police say, he was told of the offence of perverting the course of justice, cautioned and replied “Sir, is just a chance I want fuh this weed. I gat a four-year-old girl child and I really sorry fuh pass the money.”

The money was lodged.

Nedd was charged on Friday with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking. The police said he was granted his release on $50,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Wanda Fortune at the Linden Magistrate’s Court and the matter was adjourned until September 3.
