Three arrested as police raid unearths gun, ganja

Police in Regional Division 10 seized 18 grammes of cannabis, a 9 MM firearm and 11 matching rounds along with a camouflage shirt at two separate residences in Half Mile, Wismar, Linden during a raid on Friday.

According to a police press release, during the raid, a team of ranks led by a detective inspector, conducted a search on the home of a 39-year-old man of Half Mile around 06:00 hrs and found a plastic bag containing leaves, seeds and stems of cannabis on a dining table. The man was told of the offence, cautioned and arrested.

Additionally, around 06:30 hrs, the team went to another residence where they found two men, a pork-knocker and a truck driver, both 28 years old.

Police said that on entering the house, they observed one of the men throw an object through a window. The object was retrieved and proved to be a firearm. It was examined in the man’s presence where 11 live 9 MM rounds in the magazine were found. The suspect was cautioned, arrested and taken into custody.

A search was conducted on the home and a camouflage shirt was found in a bedroom where the other suspect was. He was also arrested.

The suspect who was found with the cannabis was taken to the Wismar Police Station, where the cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to 18 grammes.

The other two suspects were escorted to the Mackenzie Police Station, where the firearm, ammunition, and camouflage shirt were lodged.

The three suspects remain in police custody pending charges.
