New Amsterdam Hospital gets new CEO

Dr. Bob A. D. Ramnauth has taken over the reins as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, Regional Chairman, David Armogan confirmed to Stabroek News yesterday.

According to Armogan, Dr. Ramnauth will also have oversight for the Skeldon Public Hospital.

Dr. Ramnauth, a general surgeon, pilot and Chair-man of the MMA-ADA Board, has held several positions throughout his career including as a General Medical Officer at the Georgetown Public Hospital 2006 -2009; General Surgery Resident, Georgetown Public Hospital 2009 – 2011; Registrar, Georgetown Public Hospital 2012 – 2013; General Surgeon (HOD), West Demerara Hospital 2011; General Surgeon (HOD), New Amsterdam Public Hospital 2012; General Surgeon (HOD), Medical Superintendent Suddie Public Hospital and Oscar Joseph District Hospital 2012 – 2013; General Surgeon and Head of General Surgery Department, Anamayah Memorial Hospital 2013 – 2018; Oil Rig Doctor, Nobel Bob Douglas Drill Rig and Registrar George-town Public Hospital 2018 – present. 

According to Armogan, a two-week transition period started yesterday since former CEO Michael Khan has been relocated to the policy division at the Ministry of Health.

Meanwhile, the chairman said that it is expected that Dr. Ramnauth will bring a lot of experience, energy, enthusiasm and good management practice to the hospital and regional health sector in general. 

“I think with his energy he will be able to move around and do much more”, Armogan said.

Armogan also spoke highly of Khan and his expertise, stating that he will make a good addition to the ministry’s policy division.
