Thirty tractors with trailers presented by gov’t to Amerindian villages

President Irfaan Ali yesterday handed over 30 tractors with trailers to 30 Amerindian Village Leaders.

A statement on the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs’ Facebook page said that the ceremony was held at the Hinter-land Scholarship Student Dormitory, Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown.

The statement said that the villages which received the tractors and trailers are as follows: Region #1 (Haimacabra, 4 Miles, Santa Cruz, Barabina, Karaburi, Bumbury Hill, White Water, Kamwatta (Moruca), Santa Rosa, Waramuri). Region #2 (Mashabo, St. Deny’s, Bethany, Wakapoa), Region #4 (St. Cuthbert’s), Region # 5 (Moraikobai) Region #6 (Orealla, Siparuta), and Region #9 (Moco Moco, Kwaimatta, Yakarinta, Quiko, Annai Central, Kwatamang, Wowetta, Potarinau, Rupertee, Quatata, Fairview, Quarrie.)

The statement said that the batch of 30 is the first of 112 to be handed over. The machines were procured by the Govern-ment of Guyana through the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs at a total cost of $446M (112 tractors).

Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Pauline Sukhai said “Our event today is to ensure that the investment touches the lives of Amerindians across the hinterland where many of us reside, and the neglect that we experienced today we are correcting those issues. We are working assiduously as a government to ensure that Amerindian development is accelerated and by so doing one of the most important aspect and pillar of our economy is being addressed and that is agriculture.”

President Ali in his feature address stressed that every promise made on the campaign trail to enhance and develop hinterland and riverine villages will be fulfilled by his government.

The statement said that the President charged each recipient to make it their priority to maintain the equipment.

“My dear brothers and sisters I ask you for only one thing, these investments come at a great cost and it’s very important that you maintain the investment, that you care the investment and that you secure the investment. Part of this investment includes the training of personnel at the community level in the maintenance of the tractors, in servicing the tractors. Soon you will identify representatives to be trained”, he stated.
