‘Trini’, ‘Lil Alfey’ charged with murder of taxi driver

Two men were yesterday jointly charged with the murder of Kenrick Trim, a taxi driver who was found dead at Ogle last Wednesday, a short distance away from his car.

The accused Kenty Bacchus called ‘Trini’, 34, of Water Street, Georgetown, and Seyon James called ‘Lil Alfey’, a fish vendor of Laing Avenue, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, both appeared before Magistrate Rochelle Liverpool at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.

They were not allowed to plead to the indictable charge and were remanded to prison until August 6, 2021 when the matter will be called again in Court Two for report and fixture.

The charges came shortly after the two suspects were apprehended and allegedly confessed to police, who then sought advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The court heard that the duo on the day in question, visited a snackette on Carmichael Street, Georgetown, to purchase food. Thereafter, Bacchus flagged down a car driven by the now deceased and requested to be taken to an East Coast Demerara location.

While in the vicinity of Ogle, the court was informed, both suspects allegedly choked the deceased and dealt him several stabs about his body, before robbing him of his jewellery, cash and cell phone.

Police acting on information proceeded to Lot 12 Kingston Street and carried out a search. During the search Trim’s cellphone was allegedly found in Bacchus’ possession. He was subsequently arrested and taken to CID headquarters where he was told of the allegation and allegedly admitted to the crime.

He allegedly said that James, a second accused was also involved. James was also arrested, informed of the allegation and according to the police he, too, admitted to being a part of the robbery, but denied killing Trim.

James in his confession allegedly told police that Bacchus grabbed Trim by his neck and started to choke him until he passed out, and later pulled him over to the backseat where he was seated. Bacchus then allegedly dealt Trim several stabs about his body and relieved him of a gold ring and chain which he was wearing, a quantity of cash and his cellular phone. He also alleged that Bacchus then drove Trim’s car to a spot in Ogle, where he tossed his body out of the car. However, as he attempted to reverse the car to flee the scene, it got stuck in mud. They both then exited the car.

The suspect also claimed that Bacchus gave him $10,000 and threw the suspected murder weapon – a knife – into the nearby bushes, before they walked over a bridge and joined a minibus to Georgetown.

According to a police report, the body of Trim, a resident of Lot 129 Belfield Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara, was discovered lying motionless in the grass at the end of Cul-de-Sac Street, Block 1, Ogle, around 9 am last Wednesday.

His body appeared to have been dumped from his silver/grey Toyota Premio car, number HC 5311, which was found nearby.

His body was later identified by his eldest son, Kenrick Odel Trim, at the Georgetown Public Hospital. He told Stabroek News his father had left home for work about 7.30 am on Wednesday. He said he received a call from the police about 10.30 am informing him of the incident.

The son said he was told by the police that his father had suffered multiple stab wounds. Trim also had an injury to his mouth and neck consistent with being punched in the face and being choked.

A post-mortem had revealed his cause of death as a result of the stab wounds.
