I must say that I’m quite pleased but surely hope the authorities are consistent with this operation

Dear Editor,

Even though I’m not a user/consumer of the purified water selling about the place, I must say that I’m quite pleased to see a list of approved water filtration places. I don’t buy water for use home. Over fifteen years, I’ve been using Brita to filter water for my home consumption. Brita filters 99.7% and I only have to change the filter every 3 months or test the filtered water to see if it needs changing. I would have prefer to hear if the authorities go to these places randomly and take samples. There are various methods these places use to filter water and sell. Some have been caught using systems that’s not acceptable but by some means, they are still operational. I’ve noticed a water filtration place in Cornelia Ida whose name is not on the approved list. Many drive around with canters selling water. What mechanisms are in place to stop them from closing their shop doors and still have their canter driving around and selling? Will a charge be instituted if they are found in breach of this order? I would like to see a list of the names of those places that have been ordered to cease operation. Why make this announcement and all the places haven’t been checked/tested? This would give them time to get their act together. How regular are these tests taken? Do the authorities randomly check these places and take samples? To beat expense, some push their filtration system to the extreme before servicing/changing to gather huge profits. It’s a norm in Guyana when most places are only interested in the gains, and when measurements are put in place, they cry foul. I surely hope the authorities are consistent with this operation.

Sincerely,
Sahadeo Bates
