The Ministry of Health is monitoring COVID-19 hotspots in four administrative regions with the Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony stating that there has been an overall decline in cases.
This was disclosed during the minister’s COVID-19 update yesterday where he informed that when looking at the number of active cases over the last few weeks, a relative decline in the number can be noticed.
He added that the ministry has been using the World Health Organisation (WHO) protocol for monitoring persons who test positive for COVID-19. Such persons, he explained, are monitored for approximately 10 days and once they show no signs or symptoms of the virus within the last two days, the authorities will discharge them.
He however noted that they have observed that a number of areas have seen a relatively high number of COVID-19 cases being reported. In Region Three, authorities are monitoring Sisters Village with approximately 20 cases, along with Sophia in Region Four where there are also approximately 20 cases.
The minister added, “Region Six, New Amsterdam continues to be a little bit problematic [as] we currently have in New Amsterdam 32 cases.” Further, he mentioned that in Region Nine, there has been a surge in cases over the last three weeks and as a result there are some 39 cases in St Ignatius, 33 cases in Lethem and 19 cases in Tabatinga. Meanwhile in Region Ten, authorities are keeping a close eye on Wismar and Mabura which have 10 and 17 cases respectively.
“So these basically are the places where we have relatively high numbers and we continue to monitor and we continue to get the persons who have tested positive to isolate and hopefully these measures would help to reduce the spread of the infection,” Anthony was quoted as saying.
