Cop remanded on wife assault charge

A policeman, who is accused of assaulting his wife, was charged and remanded to prison on Monday.

Police Constable Sereste Brittlebank appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison until July 26, 2021, when the matter will be called for report.

It is alleged that Brittlebank who is stationed at the Mahaica Police Station, assaulted his wife on July 1st.

The wife, in a video shared on Facebook, stated that she was at a birthday party with the accused when she confronted one of his friends about encouraging him to have outside romantic relationships.

During her confrontation, the woman said the accused became angry came and pulled her away from his friend and accused her of embarrassing him in front of his friends before he proceeded to assault her.

The assault was reported and the suspect, who went into hiding, later turned himself in and was subsequently charged.
