Woman, 73, dies of COVID, 77 new infections confirmed

The Health Ministry on Friday reported one new COVID-19 fatality along with 77 new infections.

The fatality announced by the Ministry of Health was a 73-year-old woman from Region Four, who died while receiving care at a state medical facility.

The ministry stated that with the death the country’s total number of COVID-19 fatalities increased to 507 as of July 15. However, on Friday morning Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony announced an additional death, which was not reflected in the ministry’s final count.

Meanwhile, the 77 new cases increased the total number of confirmed cases to date in the country to 21,351. According to the ministry’s COVID-19 dashboard, the new cases were recorded after 1,506 more tests were done, thus increasing the total number of tests done to date to 207,468.

Cases were recorded in seven of the country’s ten administrative regions; Region One (3 new cases), regions Three and Ten (7 cases each), Region Four (38 cases), regions Five and Nine (2 cases each) and Region Six (18).

The dashboard showed that there are now 1,171 active cases, 103 of which are in institutional isolation while some 1,068 are in home isolation. Further, 8 persons were listed as patients at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
