Woman, 95, is latest COVID fatality

A 95-year-old woman from Region Four was on Friday confirmed to be the country’s latest COVID-19 fatality, while 54 new cases of the virus were also recorded.

The Ministry of Health made the announcement in a press release which stated that the country’s death toll as a result of the virus increased to 554.

The ministry said the woman died on August 5 while receiving care at a medical facility.

Meanwhile, according to the ministry’s COVID-19 dashboard, the 54 new cases increased the country’s total number of confirmed cases to 22,843 to date. These came after 1,792 more tests were done, thus increasing the total number of tests done to date to 223,913.

According to the regional breakdown of COVID-19 cases, new infections were reported in seven of the ten regions; 6 new cases each in regions One and Nine; 8 in Region Three; 30 in Region Four, one each in regions Two and Five; and 2 new cases in Region Ten.

There were 763 active cases, 95 of which were in institutional isolation, while 668 were in home isolation. Also, 14 persons were patients at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit even as some 39 more persons had recovered from the virus, thus increasing the total number of recovered cases in the country to 21,512.
