Region Four woman, 70, latest COVID fatality

Another COVID-19 fatality was yesterday reported along with 44 new cases of the virus.

This was revealed by the Ministry of Health in a press release which stated that the country’s death toll as a result of the novel coronavirus increased to 513. The latest fatality was identified as a 70-year-old woman from Region Four who died while receiving care at a medical facility.

Meanwhile, the 44 new cases increased Guyana’s total confirmed case count to 21,606. The new cases came after some 378 more tests were conducted, as such increasing the total number of tests done to date to 210,272.

According to the regional distribution of confirmed cases, one new case was reported in Region One, 3 new cases each in Regions Two and Three, 16 new cases in Region Four, 2 new cases each in Regions Five and Ten and 17 new cases in Region Six.

There are now 1,218 active cases, 107 of whom are currently in institutional isolation while some 1,111 are in home isolation. Some 12 persons are now patients at the country’s COVID-19 ICU while 29 more persons have recovered, increasing the total number of recovered cases to 19,863.
