Region Four woman, 58, latest COVID fatality

Guyana yesterday recorded its 177th COVID-19 fatality even as new cases were recorded.

The Ministry of Health said that the latest fatality is a 58-year-old woman from Region Four.

Meanwhile, the Ministry’s COVID-19 dashboard showed that some 13 new cases of the virus were recorded which increased Guyana’s total number of positive confirmed cases to 7,654. This shows that some 1,306 cases were recorded for the month of January.

The new cases came after some 387 more persons were tested for the virus which increased the total number of persons tested in Guyana to 50,152. The new cases were recorded in four of Guyana’s ten administrative regions with one new case each being recorded in Regions Two, Three and Five while 10 new cases were recorded in Region Four.

There are now 837 active cases in the country, 55 of which are in institutional isolation while the other 782 are in home isolation. Five persons remain patients at the country’s COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit.

There are eight persons in institutional quarantine while 44 more persons have recovered from the virus, increasing the total number of recovered cases in Guyana to 6,635.
