On Wednesday, the national cyclist earned his second back-to-back signature win of the 2021 season, sprinting to victory in the Farmsup/Doosan sponsored 45-mile road race.

The Team Evolution standout made hay in the brilliant sunshine, stopping the clock in a brisk 1h: 41m: 25s for the race which started and ended at Schoonord, with Parika being the turn-back point.

With some of the more notable riders plying their trade on the US Circuit, DeNobrega, the fastest man in the peloton was able to lead a pair of Team Alanis’ riders, Paul Choowenam and Kemuel Moses onto the podium of the lucrative fixture which attracted 42 starters.

Marcus Keiler, Alex Mendes, and Ralph Williams, completed the top six rewarding positions in the senior category in the event which was organised by Team Alanis.

Mario Washington continued his sublime form in the junior division, winning ahead of Aaron Newton and Sherwin Sampson, while Choowenam, Williams, and Monty Lewis were the top three Masters.

Suzanne Hamilton once again rode away with the spoils in the female category while Talim Shaw, Ian Jackson, and Gary Benjamin, were the top three finishers in the Masters Over-50 class.

In a post-race comment at the company’s headquarters in McDoom, DeNobrega thanked his club mates for sticking to the script and protecting him for the sprint finish. He added that under the guidance of his coach, Wayne Henry, he is preparing for a sojourn to Dominican Republic to compete in Caribbean Cycling Championships next month despite being unsure if the local federation will send a team.

“I am training towards that, which is my goal right now,” DeNobrega said of representing the 592 at the annual championship. “We have a lot of big races coming up so once the federation is sending a team, I will be ready.”

Meanwhile, during the presentation ceremony, Director of Sport, Steve Ninvalle, said he was elated to see the competitive nature of the race as well as the large turnout of riders on the holiday. Ninvalle further mentioned that the Ministry has been busy with several consultations involving sports associations and administrators.

He disclosed that under the astute leadership of the Minister of Sport, Charles Ramson Jr, there is a planned elite and nursery programme which is envisioned to effect a meteoric rise in the development of sports locally.

The Sports Director then thanked the principals of Farmsup/Doosan for sponsoring the event and also urged the administrators of sports disciplines to not force, but to request, suggest, and advise their athletes to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in an effort to end the deadly pandemic.
