A man and a woman are now on bail after being jointly charged
with the unlawful possession of a shotgun.
Sunil Singh, 44, and Monica Ramraj, 53, appeared on Friday before Magistrate Ester Sam at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to them.
They pleaded not guilty to the charge and were granted bail in the sum of $50,000 each.
The matter was adjourned until August 13, 2021.
On Wednesday, at Turasi Backdam, Cuyuni Mazaruni, police ranks were conducting searches on several dredge camps in the Middle Mazaruni area, where they discovered a pump action shotgun on the mining camp of the suspects, hidden beneath the mattress on a bed.
The two suspects, who are not licensed firearm holders, were subsequently arrested.
