Region Two Regional Executive Officer Devanand Ramdatt is refuting an article that has surfaced on social media (Facebook) which he says is aimed at defaming his character.

Ramdatt during an interview with Stabroek News deemed the content of the article as false and malicious and aimed at tarnishing his reputation as a public official. Ramdatt currently serves as the Regional Executive Officer in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region and was the former Regional Chairman under the Coalition Government for the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C).

Ramdatt is maintaining that the content is false and he will be taking necessary legal action against persons who are sharing such libelous allegations.

Ramdatt said that he is currently on annual leave spending quality time with his family and in his opinion the article was just intended to defame his character. He asserted that the promotion of character assassination must not be tolerated by anyone, whether they are for or against him.

He also opined that the article was written to divert the attention of residents in the Pomeroon-Supenaam Region but again pledged to continue to serve his fellow citizens in the most responsible, transparent, and accountable way and not to let such “falsehood” deter his eagerness to serve.

The REO also expressed gratitude to all those persons who reached out to him after finding out about the article and also bringing it to his attention.

“As a public figure you have to expect anything but what is important is for the truth to go out – no false things, I will continue to serve the people in the region and such negative will never deter my spirit, my family and I will be stronger ” Ramdatt declared.

On August 6, an “anonymous news” source on Facebook claimed that Ramdatt was sent on leave after he was in trouble. The article alleged that he is facing dismissal and a possible police probe for sexual misconduct and illegal contract awards and he has been sent on leave with his deputy now performing his duties.

When this newspaper contacted the police CID Department at Anna Regina, they denied any knowledge of such claims and were unaware of any allegations filed against Ramdatt at the police station.

This newspaper understands that the Region’s REO is not under any probe nor was he sent on leave. He was however granted leave which he had applied for and was subsequently granted. He is maintaining that the article was written to tarnish his reputation and that of his family and it was purely political mischief.
