Twelve players representing Guyana in 2021 Chess Olympiad

Twelve players are representing Guyana at the 2021 Online Chess Olympiad (Rapid), which began on Friday and ends on September 15.

In the Open section, Guyana’s players are Taffin Khan and Davion Mars, with Loris Nathoo and Gilbert Williams as reserves. Shazeeda Rahim and Sherlita Campayne are contesting in the Women’s section with Nellisha Johnson and Maria Varona Thomas as the reserves.

Ricardo Narine is Guyana’s Under-20 Male player and Emannuel Primus is the reserve, while Jessica Callender is the Under-20 Female player and Adia Alphonso is the reserve.

Guyana opposes the Netherlands Antilles, Haiti, Mauritania and Bermuda this evening. In the opening round the opponents were Togo, Cayman Islands and Antigua and Barbuda, while yesterday they were the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, St Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago. 

If the team scores wins in their respective categories and accumulates some vital points, Guyana will advance beyond Division Four, which concludes today.
