Tuschen biker in hospital after car collision

A 24-year-old motorcyclist is currently hospitalized at the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) following a collision on Saturday night with a car along the Tuschen Public Road.

As stated in a police report, the incident involved a car, PMM 153 which at the time of the incident was driven by 23-year-old Joel Sugrim of Lot 842 Zeelugt North, East Bank Essequibo and a motorcycle owned and ridden by Semaul Welcome of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.

Enquiries revealed that about 10:30 pm on Saturday, Sugrim was proceeding west along the southern side of the said road when he turned north into the path of motorcycle which was heading east along the northern side of the road. As such, the motorcycle collided with the left side of the front door of the car.

As a result of the accident, Welcome suffered a fractured hip and left foot, along with lacerations to his neck, chest, lip and stomach.

He was picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was seen by a doctor and transferred to the WDRH where he was admitted.

The driver of the car was arrested and placed in custody at the Leonora Police Station while his vehicle was lodged. A breathalyzer test was done on Sugrim but read negative for alcohol. Due to lacerations to Welcome’s lip, police were unable to have a breathalyzer test conducted on him.
