East La Penitence vendor remanded on robbery charge

A 33-year-old East La Penitence vendor was yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with being one of the three men who carried out an armed attack on a man along Regent Street.

The charge against Emmanuel Larry states that on August 16, at Regent Street, Georgetown, he robbed Anthony Budram of items totaling $106,400.

He appeared before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in Georgetown.

It was alleged that while being armed with a knife and in the company of others, Larry robbed Budram of a Samsung Galaxy phone, valued $51,000, $25,400 in cash, a smartwatch valued $5,000 and a gold chain with a pendant valued $25,000.

While entering his plea, Larry told the magistrate that he was surprised at being charged since he was locked up for five days and no one indicated that he would be placed before the court.  The police prosecutor Annalisa Brummel related to the court that the victim was walking along Regent Street when he was confronted by three men.  One of the men, suspected to be Larry, whipped out a gun and relieved him of his personal items. Immediately after, they fled. However, Larry was later apprehended.

Larry is expected to return to court on September 6 for the disclosure of the evidence against him.
