Peters Hall man accused of armed robberies

A Peters Hall man was yesterday  granted bail after being arraigned on two counts of armed robbery.

Shaquille Thomas, 21, of Lot 26 Peters Hall, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in a city court and pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was placed on $60,000 bail.

According to the charges, Thomas, while in the company of another person, robbed Steven Deosaraan on Saturday last. The victim was robbed of a computer bag, stationery and $2,500 in cash, amounting to a total value of $14,000.

It is also alleged that Thomas, on the same day, robbed Shamar Richards of a Samsung Galaxy A10 phone valued at $41,000, a black handbag worth $2,000 and books and pens valued $400, all amounting to a total value of $43,400.

Thomas was granted $30,000 bail on each charge.

He is expected to return to court on September 6 for his next hearing.
