Essequibo Technical Institute gets new Principal, Chairman

The Essequibo Technical Institute (ETI), located at Anna Regina, in Region Two, is positioned for transformation in the coming months with the appointments of a new Principal and Chairman of the Board.

Stacy Osborne, who has replaced Michael Turner, is the new Principal of the ETI, while Todar Chowbay has been elected as the new Chairman of the Board, replacing businessman Deleep Singh.

The new board was installed on July 29 and comprises 22 members, including the Principal and the Deputy. 

According to Board Chairman Chowbay, the first meeting was held on August 4, with members pledging their support to perform diligently towards the efficient and effective delivery of quality education at the technical and vocational Institute.

Chowboy said that the main objective of the Institute is to provide training for individuals in the engineering and business fields at the Craft, Advanced Craft and Technician certification levels as well as Diploma levels for business courses in order to make them competent for the world of work.

He said that enrolment is currently ongoing for the school’s new academic year, which will commence in September, 2021. Chowbay said under his leadership as the Board Chairman, he will ensure that students and teachers are given the respect and recognition they deserve at the Institute.

He noted that the Institute is there to develop students’ knowledge and skills for the promotion and maintenance of values and standards that will lead to personal and national growth. “We will continue to be the premier institute that will provide high-quality products and services to all major stakeholders to foster growth and development in the Commerce and Industry,” Chowbay said.

Meanwhile, the newly appointed Osborne said that she will be working with the board as well as relevant stakeholders towards the enhancement of the Institute. She urged persons to apply to the Institute to further their studies. The Institute also has a dormitory that caters to students that live on Wakenaam, Leguan as well as in Region One and in Bartica.

Some of the programmes offered include Electrical Installation, Electrical Engineering, and Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. Technical courses include Welding and Fabrication, Furniture Making, Agricultural Machinery, Metal Machining, the Internal Combustion Engine, while business programmes include General Office Administration, Ordinary Diploma in Commerce, Diploma in Computer Science and Data Operations.
