Coverden woman remanded on child stealing charge

A woman was on Monday remanded to prison after being charged with stealing a child.

The accused, Gangadai Rajcoomar, a 35-year-old domestic worker of Coverden, East Bank Demerara, was arraigned before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to her.

She was not required to plead to the charge and was remanded to prison.  The matter was postponed until October 7, 2021, for report.

The accused was arrested on August 17 by a rank attached to the Brickdam Police Station and subsequently charged at the Leonora Police Station with the offence of child stealing, committed on Joyce Hutson on July 9, 2021, at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.
