COVID death toll rises by four, 134 new cases

Four more COVID-19 deaths were yesterday reported along with 134 new cases.

This was revealed by the Ministry of Health in a press release which stated that the country’s total fatalities increased to 601. The latest fatalities were identified as an 83-year-old man from Region Ten who died on August 20. Further, two women a 93-year-old from Region Three and an 80-year-old from Region Four and a 52-year-old man from Region Four all died on August 22.

Meanwhile, the 134 new cases that were reported increased the total number in the country to 24,506. These came after some 1,917 more tests were done thus increasing the total number of tests done to date to 256,764.

According to the Ministry of Health’s dashboard, the majority of new cases were reported in Regions Four, Three and Six with 74, 25 and 11 cases respectively. There are now 1,421 active cases, 96 of whom are in institutional isolation while some 1,325 are in home isolation.

Some 22 persons are now patients at the country’s COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit even as some 53 more persons have recovered from the virus. As a result the country’s total recovered cases now stand at 22,462.
