E’quibo man beaten after attempted rape of teen

A man, described by police as being of unsound mind, is now patient under guard at the Suddie Public Hospital in Region Two after he was beaten by residents of Adventure, Region Two, who caught him trying to rape a young girl.

The episode occurred around 4.30 pm on Thursday, when the man is alleged to have attacked a 13-year-old girl.

The girl was waylaid by the man while she was making her way to a supermarket. However, residents were alerted and they intervened.

As the girl ran away, the male villagers started to beat her attacker and continued until the police from Suddie arrived at the scene. The villagers also threw paint on his skin.

“I was passing… when I stopped I saw them beating this man up and his body had paint. When I find out, I heard he was trying to rape a young woman,” an eyewitness related.

A resident called the police, who immediately attended the scene. The battered man was then taken to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he was admitted under guard.

Relatives of the teenager were grateful that she was saved and commended the efforts of residents for saving their daughter from the hands of the would-be rapist.
