Two robbed while awaiting autopsy on family member

A vendor and a taxi driver standing by to witness the post-mortem examination of a family member, were on Friday robbed by three men while at the Memorial Gardens, Le Repentir Cemetery.

The police in a report stated that at about 8.30 am on the day in question, the victims were at the Memorial Gardens & Crematorium when they were approached by three men.

The report said that one of the suspects brandished a handgun at the vendor and relieved her of a gold chain and bangle worth $127,000, two cell phones valued at $75,000 and $50,000 cash.

They then turned their attention to the driver and relieved him of $130,000 cash and one Samsung Galaxy cellular phone valued at $40,000.

After committing the robbery, the armed suspect discharged two rounds in the air as they made their escape.

The Guyana Police Force has since launched an investigation into the matter.
