Subsea works companies get bunkering permit for EEZ

Two companies which undertake subsea works have been granted permission by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for bunkering activities in Guyana’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

The EPA yesterday published a notice to this effect but details of the operations have not yet been uploaded to the agency’s website.

The two companies are the Argentine DOF Management AS and the Hong Kong and British conglomerate Swire Pacific Offshore Operation (PTE) Limited.

According to the notice, the EPA has screened the applications and has determined that they will not significantly affect the environment and thus do not need an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).

However, the EPA said that while in keeping with Section 11(1) of the Environmental Protection Act, the screening showed no EIA was needed, the agency will require that safeguards be informed by an Environment Management Plan.

Established since 1975, Swire Pacific Offshore says that it “is a trusted marine services provider that prides itself to deliver safe, high quality, reliable and sustainable Marine Services.”
