Two Corentyne cattle rangers were on Wednesday evening attacked and robbed at Gurman Gate, Tain, Corentyne, Berbice.

According to information gathered, the two cattle rangers were in a guard hut when they were attacked by the two bandits, who dealt them several lashes about their bodies after which they escaped with the rangers’ bicycles.

The perpetrators also escaped with two haversacks valued $9,000 in total, one torchlight valued $700, and one food bowl valued $500.

The Guyana Police Force yesterday in a statement to the press said that one of the suspects is in custody assisting with the investigation.

According to the statement, “The matter was reported to the police and acting on information received the police went to a home at Miss Phoebe, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice, where a 24-year-old male was seen lying in a hammock underneath the house.” 

A search was carried out and the police discovered two haversacks on a bench next to the suspect, which were identified by the victims. 

“Further checks were made in the house and three bicycles were found – two of which were identified by the victims to be their properties,” the statement added.

Police are continuing the hunt for a second suspect.
