Beverage vendor gets bail on larceny charge

A beverage vendor was on Monday placed on $60,000 bail after she denied stealing a cellphone valued at $167,000.

Odessa McCalman, 44, of Lot 136 Middle Street, McDoom, Greater Georgetown, was brought before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus to answer to the charge of larceny from the person.

It is alleged that on October 6, at Charlotte and King streets, Georgetown, she stole the cellphone from Danielle Glenn.

The mother of two denied the charge and was granted bail after her attorney made an application for her. According to the attorney, the woman was arrested and kept at the East La Penitence Police Station, where she was later released on $40,000 station bail. She assured the court that the beverage vendor will attend court if she is released on reasonable bail.

The magistrate subsequently released McCalman on $60,000 bail and told her to return to court on October 25.
