Pouderoyen loses second warmup fixture

West Demerara giant Pouderoyen FC suffered their second loss of their pre-season tour, going down by a 1-3 scoreline yesterday at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.

Head Coach Travis Bess during a post match comment said, “Today we played very poorly and due to our lacklustre behavior during the game, it cost us dearly. Going forward we need to raise our standard and maintain it. Playing against some former national players and some current, we played below our standard and we need improve.”

He added, “Even though we lost there was some positives in the match, we are going to work on the positives and try to eradicate the negative parts. As a team preparing to go and play Rising Stars of Bartica in Bartica shortly we need to raise our level.”

With wet conditions under foot and cloudy skies in effect, the Georgetown based Park Rangers outfit took the lead in the 20th minute as Sunil Logan found the back of the net.

Racing onto a through pass, Logan evaded the challenge of the onrushing goalkeeper inside the right of the box, before slotting his effort into the left corner of the empty net.

Another 14 minutes elapsed before Park Rangers doubled their advantage through Ryan Hackett. The burly midfielder, upon receiving a cross from the left side of the field inside the centre of the box, blasted a left footed shot past the custodian into the lower left corner.

Hackett should have grabbed his second five minutes later, shrugging off the challenge of his marker while racing into the penalty area, only to fire his effort wide of the right corner.

The score remained unchanged for the remainder of the first half. Following the resumption of action, Pouderoyen reduced the deficit in the 50th compliments of a Stephon Jupiter conversion.

A goalkeeping error gifted Pouderoyen the goal as a simple cross from outside the left of the penalty box, was spilt by the custodian into the path of Jupiter, who backheeled the ball into the back of the net.

Nevertheless, any hopes of a Pouderoyen comeback was extinguished in the 72nd minute, as substitute Jamal Welch made his presence felt.

Latching onto a through ball on the left side of the field, Welch, upon entering the 18 yard area, slotted past the advancing goalkeeper during a one-on-one situation into the lower right corner.
