Forty-seven per cent of adult population fully vaccinated – Dr Anthony

Forty-seven per cent of Guyana’s adult population is fully vaccinated as the Minister of Health continues to urge persons to return for their second dose.

This statistic was disclosed by the Health Minister, Dr Frank Anthony yesterday during his daily COVID-19 update where he stated that over 130,000 persons are still to receive their second dose. He also informed that 47% of the fully vaccinated adult population accounts for some 242,211 persons.

As it relates to the regional distribution of those fully vaccinated persons, he noted that in Region One, 40.4% of the adult population there is fully inoculated while in Region Two it is 39.2%; Region Three, 44.7%; Region Four, 53.7%; Region Five, 47.5%; Region Six, 47.2%; Region Seven, 42.4%; Region Eight, 32%; Region Nine, 51.2%; and Region Ten with the lowest at 17.7%.

“When you look at how much persons got their first dose and how much persons got their second dose, there’s a difference of 139,000 people,” he stated. As such he noted that 380,257 adults have received a first dose which accounts for about 74.1% of the adult population.

Regarding the adolescent vaccination programme, 37,193 adolescents have received a first dose accounting for 37.3% of that age group, while for second doses 17,868 persons from the ages of 12 to 17 have received a second dose.
