The Lady Jaguars suffered a humbling 6-0 loss to Honduras yesterday in the qualifiers of the 2022 Concacaf Women’s U17 Championship (CWU17C), at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL, USA.

It was a disappointing performance from the Guyanese, as the score line clearly illustrated the gulf in quality between the two nations.

Guyana’s starting XI remained unchanged from their group-C opener against Anguilla. The starters comprised Sidney Facey, Ciara Sarius, Sue Edwards, Nikasi St Jules, Alyssa Blake, Akeelah Vancooten, Sara Mathias, Anaya Willabus, Jalade Trim, Karan Jupiter, and Sandra Johnson.

Anyeli Rodriguez broke the deadlock in the 28th minute as she skip past a defender inside the left of the penalty box, before unleashing a flat shot across the body of the goalkeeper, which struck the right upright and settled into the back of the net .

Diminutive Karla Calix made her presence felt once minute later, netting the first of an eventual hat-trick. Latching on to a through pass which emanated from outside the left of the penalty box, Calix uncorked a powerful right footed effort into the top left corner.

Calix returned once more to torment the backline of the Guyanese in the 44th minute, in the process recording a deserved brace.

Receiving a through pass inside the right of the six yard area, the wily attacker calmly placed her right footed effort into the lower left corner, capping off a dominant half for the Hondurans.

The Lady Jaguars who failed to record a shot on target in the first half, once again conceded in the 48th minute as Calix completed her hat-trick.

Latching onto an initial deflected shot, Calix lobbed her right footed attempt from the top of the 18 yard area into the left corner.

An own goal in the 68th minute pushed the score to 5-0, as a first time effort from inside the centre of the box, was inadvertently directed into the back of the net, by defender Anostasha Coppin in an attempt to deny the shot.

Guyana’s only noteworthy moment of the period, occurred in the 72nd minute, as a right footed free kick 32 yards from goal in the centre of the field by Trim, was parried away by the diving goalkeeper.

The lopsided score was then sealed in the 90th+2 of the contest, as the Hondurans were awarded a penalty for a handball infraction.

Tasked with the responsibility from the distance, Rodriguez made now mistake, as she fired her shot into the left side of the net to seal her brace.

Meanwhile, the second match of the pool witnessed a scoreless stalemate between Anguilla and Turks and Caicos.

With the respective results, Guyana sits second in the group on four points, while Honduras remains undefeated on six points. On the other hand, Anguilla climb onto one point in the third spot, while Turks and Caicos sit in the cellar on a point owing to their poor goal differential.

Guyana will end their group campaign tomorrow at the same venue against Turks and Caicos from 11:00am. Mean-while, Honduras will oppose Turks and Caicos in their final fixture.
